30 imagesBraaave Architecture documents the epic transformation of Manhattan at the turn of 21st Century New York. The images cast the new additions to the skyline in black and white, so that they may be better judged against the older, established icons that have always been the core of New York’s identity -structures representing both knowledge and power which together mark the pride of city thru the importance of it’s architecture. What we now call supertalls harken back to the skyscrapers of the previous century, ornate modern buildings that represented the ambition of a country taking center stage in the world. Architects from around the world aspire to make their mark on our skyline. Today those names include such luminaries in the field as Jean Nouvel, Rafael Viñoly, Frank Gehry, Santiago Calatrava, and Robert A.M. Stern. A forthcoming book Brand New York by Brian Christopher Sargent presents these new icons as they are born into being. %0A
